Anti-ssDNA is an ELISA-based, automated, in-vitro test system for the quantitative, in-vitro determination of IgG antibodies against single-stranded DNA in human serum or plasma. This assay is used for the serological detection of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and drug-induced lupus. The antibody titers correlate with disease activity: In the serum of SLE patients, ssDNA antibodies are found in up to 87 % of patients during acute relapses of the disease but only 43 % of patients during inactive phases. In conjunction with the detection of histone antibodies, the determination of ssDNA antibodies is helpful for the differential diagnosis of drug-induced lupus. ssDNA antibodies are found in over 50 % of these patients. Antibodies against ssDNA are additionally found in patients with collagenoses and juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA).
