Alkaline phosphatase

Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme found in various parts of the body, especially in the liver, osteoblasts involved in bone neoformation, placenta, intestine, cells lining the biliary tract and kidneys.

High alkaline phosphatase levels are associated with the stage of bone growth, for example in children; are also indicators of liver dysfunction and biliary obstruction.

Alkaline phosphatase is also used as a tumor marker for osteosarcoma, breast cancer or prostate cancer with bone metastases.

BEFORE THE TEST: The patient should not eat 10-12 hours before the test.

PRACTICE: Take a blood sample with a volume equal to 7ml, in a test tube with a red cap.

After the test: Pressure is applied to the site of blood collection, checking the bleeding status.

NORMAL VALUES IN MEN: 45-115 U / L

NORMAL VALUES IN WOMEN: 30-100 U / L

NORMAL VALUES IN CHILDREN: Values ​​from one to three times higher than in adults

NORMAL VALUES IN CHILDREN 8-12 YEARS OLD: Values ​​five to six times higher than adults

NORMAL VALUES IN THE ELDERLY: Slightly higher values ​​than in the normal adult
