Pregnacare Plus

A great nutritional support for mother and baby

Pregnacare Plus offers a dual pack containing the essential vitamins for pregnancy including the recommended doses of folic acid 400mcg and 10mcg vitamin D as advised by the Department of Health in England, throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, plus capsules with Omega-3 that offer a rich source of DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) which contributes to the normal development of the brain and eyes in the fetus.

Pregnacare Plus is formulated to help mothers maintain nutrient levels in their body at the right levels without the difficulty or confusion about the nutrients they need to take.

Pregnacare Plus offers

28x multi-nutrition Pregnacare tablets with 400mcg folic acid

Pregnacare tablets contain a careful combination of 19 important nutrients for mother and baby. Pregnacare is formulated by experts in such a way that each ingredient is at safe levels. This includes vitamin B12, plus vitamin D and folic acid which are at the recommended levels for the baby during pregnancy. Folic acid during pregnancy reduces folate deficiencies in mothers whose absence is a risk factor for defects in the development of the nervous system in the fetus.

28x Omega-3 capsules with 300mg DHA

The capsules contain high quality fish oil which is a rich source of the extremely important essential acids DHA and EPA. DHA is especially important during pregnancy as it contributes to the normal development of the fetus's brain and eyes.

One capsule of Pregnacare Omega-3 per day contains 300 mg DHA, the level recommended by international experts for pregnant and lactating mothers, plus 60 mg EPA.

regnacare Plus does not contain fish oil extracted from tuna, shark or swordfish as it is not recommended for pregnant women.

Vitamin D in pregnancy

According to the UK Department of Health it is advisable to take 10mcg of vitamin D during pregnancy and lactation, which is exactly the amount found in this product.

Vitamin E in pregnancy

Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Pregnacare contains a small recommended amount of this vitamin 4mg. It is present in its natural form that is better absorbed than the synthetic form.

Importance of Omega-3 fatty acids

Adults can get DHA and EPA through conversion by the body of the essential fatty acid ALA (alpha linoleic acid), present in vegetable oils such as flaxseed oil but this process is very inefficient for the body. Fish oil is a direct and quite reliable way of getting DHA and EPA. The fetus and newborn in the first steps of life need to take these fatty acids directly as they find it very difficult to convert it themselves from ALA.

Brain and eye development

DHA is the dominant fatty acid in the nervous system once found in the cell walls in the brain. In the fetus 60% of the brain is composed of fats where 40% is DHA. There is an increased need for DHA from the fetus which corresponds to an increase in the amount of DHA in the brain during the last months of pregnancy. At birth the baby's brain weighs as much as 70% of an adult's brain weight and 15% of brain growth occurs in the first years of life.

DHA is important during this period. DHA is found in quantities and larger in the retina.
