Doppelherz – Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is found in many animal products such as meat, eggs and dairy. In contrast, plants do not contain vitamin B12. Vegetarians consume almost no vitamin B12 from their diet.

However an insufficient intake of vitamin B12 has other causes.

Vitamins are normally absorbed directly from the intestine. Vitamin B12 is an exception. It requires a special protein, vitamin B12 to enter the bloodstream through the intestinal mucosa: "intrinsic factor" (IF).

The problem: with age less and less IF is produced, so the body has less vitamin B12.

Vitamin B12 contributes, among other things, to a normal functioning of the nervous system and to a normal energy metabolism. Research has shown that it also fulfills other important functions in the body:

Helps reduce fatigue and lethargy

Supports a normal function of the immune system

Contributes to the formation of red blood cells

It has a function in cell division

Vitamin B2 also contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism.
